Perforating, Scoring, Slitting & Transport Systems

 

Graphic Whizard

Perforate, score and slit at the entrance of the machine not on an exit shaft. Blades change in seconds without removing any shafts or the blade mount hub.

Anvil-style perf provides a burr-free, flat finish. Individually adjust the depth of each perf / score / slit independently.

Feeding Systems: the friction fed model uses a top feeding system that virtually eliminates scuffing and allows for the machine to be loaded while running.

For delicate or glossy stocks where scuffing must be avoided, the horizontal air fed machine is recommended. The friction fed system can be upgraded, on site,

to an air fed model by a qualified technician.

The VividCoater is a low maintenance ultra violet cured coating system that produces a high quality finish to the printed sheet. With a wide range of finish options, including matte to high gloss, UV coating not only makes printed products lively and brilliant, but also offers powerful protection against friction and fading.

Compared to conventional solvent based coatings the VividCoater produces virtually no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) and is considered to be

environmentally friendly. This is a positve step forward for the increasingly knowledgeable and environmentally aware consumer marketplace.

By producing richer and more vibrant colours on digitally or offset printed pieces the VividCoater offers the on-demand print market the opportunity to have more

Typically, a job such as the one pictured (11″x17″ 4 page program, quantity of 2500) would have either been letterpress scored, and then folded on our MBO, or would have been set up on the MBO with an 8 page unit and scored and folded inline. The quality of the rotary score is fine for 100# text, but we prefer a true score for cover weight. The quality of the Creasemaster is as good, or better, than letterpress, and we were able to crease and score that job in just over 1 hour, with a 3 sheet setup. Compared to a letterpress makeready, letterpress run time, folder makeready and folder running time, the Creasemaster and IKF have been a true profit center. And,

the skill set required to run the two is minimal compared to the other options listed above, which require journeyman. Not the case with our Graphic Whizard equipment.

CM Plus+When we decided to get a digital press we were concerned about what we were going to do in bindery for finishing. So we started looking for a creaser to finish our digital work. Graphic Wizard was the one that we purchased based on the quality and reliability that their machines offer. We have had our Creasemaster now for 2 years and would be lost without it. It not only does the creasing for all of our digital work but for our offset work as well. It is the one machine that we use everyday in

our bindery. Since we use it so much, we are now thinking about purchasing another machine to use in our copy center. Great job on a machine that is easy to set-up

In February 2010 Best Tech Graphic Equipment installed their 2nd of 3 XDC-480M’s at MGF Consortium in New Jersey in a very short time. MGF Consortium of

Edison New Jersey upgraded to the XDC-480M from the GW Micro this winter as their production needs grew. MGF specializes in mailing, fulfillment and full color

Compu-Mail of Niagara Falls New York has recently purchased and installed the new Graphic Whizard VividCoater XDC-660M from Comgraph Sales and Service Inc.

Halcraft Printers

 

In November of 2009 at Graphics Canada in Toronto Halcraft Printers made the decision to go big in the area of UV Coating, being one of the first to offer UV coating

to the commercial print market east of Quebec. Brian and Wayne Arkelian (owners of Halcraft Printing) introduced UV coating to their clients in the summer of 2009

with the entry level Graphic Whizard Micro UV coater. The intentions were to upgrade within 6 months to a year. They did just that. With the 29.5” x 25” sheet size of

the XDC-750A, Halcraft has the ability to run sheets directly from their Heidelberg SM-74 5 color, or digital sizes from their Xerox 5000. Bill Todd of Graphic Supplies

and Equipment did a great job working with Halcraft to determine their needs and help them choose the machine that would be the best fit to continue to grow their

Spiel Associates of Long Island City has recently installed another NEW XDC-530 Micro in New York City. Printicon of Manhattan chose the XDC-530 to protect

and enhance their high-end work from their HP Indigo Press as well as their offset work. The XDC-530 Micro is the perfect fit for tight spaces without compromising features or abilities with it’s 20.75” wide coating width and many features usually only found on larger more expensive UV Coaters.

XDC-530 Micro –The XDC-530 Micro coater has been a great addition to our digital print field. It’s an easy upsell, and given the low cost of operation, and cleanup, it’s very easy to run. We use ours about every other day. I was impressed with the results on various materials we have run, from scored book covers, to full coverage dark business cards. The coating evens out the colors, and virtually eliminates streaks left by digital printing. Purchased through John Fleming of Consolidated Marketing who quickly identified Carter Graphics finishing needs. Russ Carter attended On-Demand 2010 in Philadelphia in April and chose Graphic Whizard’s

VividCoater XDC-750A to be the best fit for his business. Russ Carter (owner) will add UV coating to their wide range of offerings for their digital and offset finishing. Carter Printing is a full service commercial printer offering print service from their Canon 7000 Digital Color Press up to their 6 color 56” Mitsubishi offset press.

Best Graphics - Menomonee Falls Wisconsin

 

In August of 2010 Best Graphics Inc. of Menomonee Falls Wisconsin installed their first VividCoater XDC-660A UV Coater along with a full featured CreaseMaster Plus with strike perf and impact perf at HC Miller in Green Bay Wisconsin. HC Miller provides organizational products such as index tabs, binders and filing solutions to healthcare, government, dental and legal markets through 350 dealers and distributors. HC Miller uses a 5 color Heidelberg and Xerox Igen 4 for the majority of their printing. Jeff Collier, Director of Operations for HC Miller was able to better his lead time to his customer by 3 days with keeping his UV Coating In House. Best Graphics was able to provide HC Miller with a bundle through Graphic Whizard that helped them have complete control of their work and increase productivity.

GW Junior

The GW Junior is a tabletop, numbering machine equipped with a forward numbering head ideally suited to the smaller printer requiring in-shop numbering. No special operator is required. The machine uses less than a square foot of space, has a rugged construction and reliable electronics to ensure years of trouble-free performance.

 

 

GW 3000

 

The GW 3000 is designed as a mid-volume, automatic number/perf/score/slit machine, ideal for the printer who does more numbering than can be efficiently accomplished on a hand fed machine. Head Rotation: Heads rotate and lock in any position throughout 360 degrees for perfect register. If the box that a number is placed in is out of register, and you are limited to only 90 degree increments for number position, it looks like the number is crooked. Some manufacturers have the operator physically remove the head, and remount it at every 90 degrees. With a Graphic Whizard, the heads “swivel” with ease.

 

Unique Feeder Design:Our unique feeder design is the only one on the market, that can consistently and accurately feed any-sized, pre-padded carbonless set from the unglued side. Why limit yourself to feeding only the glued side? How would you perforate along that side? With a Graphic Whizard, you can create “snap sets” while you number.

 

Perforating & Scoring:Perforate, score and slit at the entrance of the machine, not on an exit shaft. Blades can be changed in seconds without removing any shafts. Anvil style perf provides a burr-free, flat finish. Tail whips are eliminated by the use of several tires, which hold the sheet perfectly square. Individually adjust the depth of each perf/score or slit independently of the others!

 

Easy Programming: Microprocessor control ensures accurate results. Backward AND forward stepping allows for easy, perfect number placement with a single set up sheet. On a Graphic Whizard, if you make a mistake while programming, you never have to clear the sheet and start over.

 

Modular Design:Graphic Whizard’s new product line features an entirely new, modular design. This eliminates the need to EVER trade in your older model for a more productive one. Simply “upgrade” it. For instance, if the GW 3000 fits your needs perfectly TODAY, you don’t need to get out your crystal ball to determine how many jobs MIGHT be coming through the door in the future. You could upgrade it at any time to any of the other models.

 

Electronic Impression Control: Microprocessor and digital control in all our models allow us to control with great precision, the time for which we energize our drive units. The voltage is not varied. This allows us to impart more or less inertia on the head depending on how much of the stroke we energize for, thus controlling the strength of our numbering head crash. Simply put, the longer we accelerate for, the faster we go, and the harder we hit. We have NEVER replaced a solenoid because of impression control changes. Never! Our competitors use the same force, but increase or decrease the head height to get a heavier or lighter crash. This may cause premature head damage

 

Bushings: The shafts are supported in the machine and spin within oil-impregnated bronze bushings. These automatically release oil to the shafting as required. They are stressed in the unit at less than 30% of their rated load.

 

Head Driver: We are unique in the way we propel your numbering heads to the paper: we refer to it as “inertia drive”. Whether using our electronic or pneumatic drive units, there is no direct coupling of the numbering head to the driver. The driver stroke is shorter than the head’s travel to the paper. The driver has been specifically engineered to produce rapid acceleration, impact the numbering head under inertia, and immediately release! With the inertia transferred from the driver, the numbering head is propelled to the paper, makes an impression, and is free to return. The result is a clean and clear number. The further benefit to this method is the reduced wear and tear on the head frame, components, wheels etc, resulting in a longer head life.

 

Numbering Head: The standard head offered is an all steel numbering machine manufactured by Reiner Gmbh & Co. in Germany. It has been our head of choice since we began in 1987, and has proved so reliable that two of our competitors subsequently chose the same supplier’s numbering head for use in their machines.

 

Shafting: All turning shafts in our products are made from a special high tensile strength steel which offers the strength, rigidity, resistance to deflection, and a number of other critical mechanical properties normally available only on shafts of significantly larger diameter. The shafting is supplied “centerless ground” to exacting specifications measured at one-half of one thousandth of an inch (0.0005″). The shafting is also plated with a very hard skin of chromium to prevent corrosion and “pitting” from set screws. This shafting has proved so durable that we have never replaced a shaft on any unit due to wear or fatigue.

 

Rollers: All are solid urethane and are impervious to cleaning chemistry, chemicals in the paper (such as the ones in carbonless paper), and whatever else may contact them. They are also capable of being machined to more precise tolerances, are more resistant to abrasion, and quite simply last longer.

 

Electronics: So reliable that we back them for five years (see our warranty for details). If a circuit ever fails, the self diagnostic features identify the problem immediately and correction can be carried out without requiring a service call. Exchanging the circuit boards has also been made simple enough that a technician may not be required. Of course, with our network of dealers around the world, help is never more than a phone call away.

 

Drive Train: All drive components are metal. The main timing belt is steel reinforced. The motors are brushless. All require no maintenance.
